GNS offers courses targeting audience members who seek to familiarize themselves with a complete background of deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment process. Courses are tailored to physicians, surgical nurses, assistants and technicians, and industrial technology representatives.
Objectives for all audience members include
- Obtain understanding basic principals of neurology, neuropsychology, neuropharmacology and neurosurgical components of DBS therapy.
- Become familiar with software and surgical equipment necessary for microelectrode recording (MER).
- Obtain understanding of the principles of electrophysiology and the factors that affect MER.
- Obtain overall basic knowledge of the full treatment process for the DBS procedure.
Courses are held over a three day period, commencing at 8:00am the first day and ending at 3:15pm on the final day. Tuition includes a course book, syllabus, transportation to and from either Cleveland or Pittsburgh International Airports, accommodations, transportation between course venues, and all meals and refreshments. Special dinner events on days one and two are also included.
